GLP-1
A gut hormone that triggers insulin release and slows stomach emptying. Drug names imitate this hormone.
GLP-1 (glucagon-like peptide-1) is a hormone your gut releases when you eat. It tells your pancreas to release insulin, slows down how fast food leaves your stomach, and reduces appetite. Drugs in the GLP-1 class (semaglutide, tirzepatide, liraglutide) imitate this signal, which is why they reduce hunger and produce weight loss.
