SSRI vs SNRI
SSRIs boost serotonin only. SNRIs boost both serotonin and norepinephrine.
Both classes treat depression and anxiety. SSRIs (sertraline, escitalopram, fluoxetine) are first-line — well-studied, broad effectiveness, fewer interactions. SNRIs (duloxetine, venlafaxine) are second-line, often added when SSRIs fail or when chronic pain coexists. SNRIs may have a slight edge for severe depression but with more side effects (sweating, BP changes).
