Can I drink coffee on Wegovy?

Coffee on Wegovy is fine for most patients but may need adjustment. Caffeine is not contraindicated. However, two issues: (1) on an empty stomach, coffee can worsen GLP-1-related nausea — try having a small protein-containing snack first; (2) caffeine increases gastric acid which compounds reflux that GLP-1s can already cause. Patients sensitive to either tend to do better with smaller cup sizes, lower caffeine content, or coffee after food rather than as first morning intake. Decaf or half-caf is a reasonable middle ground. Cold brew has lower acid content than hot brew if reflux is your main issue. Avoid sugary lattes that pack excess calories.

  • What are the most common Wegovy side effects?

The most common Wegovy side effects are gastrointestinal: nausea (40-44% of trial patients), diarrhea (30%), vomiting (24%), and constipation (24%). These typically peak during dose escalation in the first 4-8 weeks and improve as the body adapts. Less common but serious risks include gallbladder problems, pancreatitis, kidney strain (especially if dehydrate

  • Can I drink alcohol on Wegovy?

Not contraindicated but tolerated poorly. Wegovy slows gastric emptying so alcohol hits harder and later. Most patients become intoxicated on 1-2 drinks. Eat first, hydrate, max 1 drink. Heavy drinking risks severe vomiting on GLP-1s.

  • What should you eat on a GLP-1 (and what to avoid)?

On a GLP-1, eat protein first (80-100g/day to protect muscle), add fiber and extra water, and eat small slow meals. Avoid high-fat and fried foods, large portions, carbonated drinks, alcohol, and refined sugar, all of which worsen nausea on delayed gastric emptying.
