Wegovy is not recommended during pregnancy. Animal studies show developmental harm at exposures relevant to humans, and there is no adequate data in pregnant humans. Novo Nordisk advises discontinuing Wegovy at least 2 months before a planned pregnancy because semaglutide has a long half-life — it takes roughly 5-6 weeks to clear the system. If you become pregnant unexpectedly while on Wegovy, stop the medication and contact your prescriber promptly; they will discuss next steps and may refer you to a maternal-fetal specialist. Weight gain during pregnancy is expected and healthy; the goal is fetal development, not weight management. Wegovy is also not recommended while breastfeeding. Patients planning fertility treatment should coordinate timing with their reproductive endocrinologist.
